Don’t Go Broke Trying to Build an Online Business

Posted under Internet Marketing

Trying to Buy Success

How often are you purchasing ebooks, strategy guides and software to build you IM business? Are you spending cash hand over fist in pursuit of an ideal approach to implement your business idea? Are you becoming an IM product addict, investing your cash in anything and everything that might improve you bottom line?

If you’re spending a fortune on your business, you’re not the only one. Many IMers are on the buy-buy-buy-and-buy-some-more treadmill.

Those spending habits have a logical appeal. It’s perfectly reasonable to purchase new products and information to refine your already-successful business. It’s sane and sensible to invest in new strategy guides to stay abreast of changes in the industry and to get your hands on innovative ideas. However, there is a problem with running on the BUY NOW treadmill if you’re not making any money.

There’s a significant difference between trying to stay on the cutting edge and gambling on every possible tool in hopes of making a business work.

You want to spend your money the smart way. You don’t want to spend yourself into bankruptcy before you build a real business.

Buying the Right Way

How do you prevent yourself from unnecessary overspending? You need to build a solid foundation for your business. If you look at the core of Internet marketing, it’s really rather simple.

You must have a product you can sell. You must have a way to sell the product. You need to secure traffic to the website you’ll be using to generate sales.

That’s really all there is to it. Everything you do needs to strengthen one or more of those three simple core needs.

That means that you should start by building a solid foundation on all three fronts. Anything you buy as you’re building your business needs to address the construction of that foundation.

You need to build a solid foundation that will allow you to start making money online free before you begin worrying about the details. When you have a foundation in place, you will make money. Then you can start experimenting with new ideas and products.

How to Build Your Foundation

You don’t need to spend big money to build a profitable foundation. Here’s what you need to do.

  • Get a smart, big picture understanding of Internet marketing. You can get that kind of perspective from someone with successful IM experience.
  • Make traffic a top priority. Traffic is, as noted, one of the core elements to a successful online business. It’s probably the most important of those three elements. Without traffic, you can’t determine if your product is interesting or if you’re sales strategy is working.| Absent traffic, you can’t determine if you have the right product or a workable sales strategy. You need to get people to your site as soon as possible.
  • Secure ongoing support. A good ebook can be helpful. Solid tutorial videos are a great idea. However, there’s nothing like developing an ongoing connection with a coach or mentor who has a history of success and a willingness to show you the ropes. Good mentoring increases efficiency, makes it easier for you to build a foundation, and allows you to avoid common mistakes.
  • Manage your risk. You need to build your foundation without putting too much of your limited resources at risk. Look for opportunities to secure the right information at a reasonable price. Find a small business coaching opportunity that doesn’t require a fat up-front commitment and that doesn’t lock you into a multi-month contract.

How and why to build an email list

Posted under Internet Marketing, List Building, Uncategorized

Even if you’re new to Internet marketing, you’ve heard the same old saying a thousand times. The money is in the list. List marketing is probably the most powerful way to create a profitable home based business. You can’t afford to ignore this powerful approach.

Why it works

In most cases, people need to see a marketing message more than once before they’re persuaded to make a purchase. Repeated encounters are a key to generating sales. You have the chance to share your messages repeatedly with those who are a part of your list.

Additionally, people are more prone to spend their money with people the trust and know. List marketing gives you a chance to develop a relationship with the people on your list. That increases your credibility, producing more sales.

How to do it

Building a list is a rock-solid way to take advantage of a good home based business opportunities online, and it beings with a single simple page – the squeeze page. A squeeze page is a landing page designed with a single purpose. It should convince readers to sign up for your list. Everything else is irrelevant.

Most of the time, people encourage sign ups by offering a free gift to new subscribers. This is a proven strategy that you can use to spur the success of your business.

It’s not enough to have a good freebie, though. Building a squeeze page the right way is just as important. There are certain squeeze page strategies that produce the best results. You should be using those moneymaking approaches. That will involve closely following three important guidelines.

Squeeze page basics

First, keep your squeeze page free of any links leading to other sites of pages. You don’t want to provide your prospective customers with an “escape route” or distractions that may reduce conversions.

Second, you’ll need to write a short, powerful message. You want to make your offer of an inducement attractive and you don’t want to dilute that point with extraneous verbiage. Don’t forget that your squeeze page only has one purpose – to build a list. Every word on the page should serve that function.

Third, you need to treat the sign up process like a sale – you must “close the deal”. That means that you will need to make a strong, persuasive call to action as part of your sign up form. Make it clear to readers that they’ll benefit from the simple, free act of filling out your subscriber form.

If you follow those three recommendations and offer an attractive freebie, you’ll be well on your way to building a list. You’ll have the chance to build good relationships with your potential customers. It will also allow you to reach them with your marketing messages on multiple occasions.

Online list building is a powerful way to improve your Internet marketing performance. The fact that so many successful marketers embrace list building isn’t an accident. The money really is in the list!

Avoid These Twitter Mistakes To Market Effectively

Posted under Internet Marketing

As Twitter gets more and more popular, it has also become an accepted method to market your products online. Given below are a few mistakes that you should avoid when promoting your product on Twitter.

Avoid the first common novice mistake which is to get too involved with your followers. While on one hand you’re trying to be like everyone else with your tweets, you still want to separate your business from your fun time. Whatever you choose for your subject matter, make sure you stay on subject and keep your personal life out of it. The people following you won’t have patience for what food you like or don’t like, or about how much you drank last night. People only want to hear about how they will benefit within your specific niche. You can of course send a few fun tweets, just as long as they’re relevant to your niche. Pretend you were looking on YouTube and you found a funny video that had to do with your subject, as that would be great to share with your contacts. While you’re not necessarily assisting them with an issue they may be having, your tweets will become entertaining to others. This helps in a big way because people get to know the real you, and yet you’re still within your target niche. If you want to reveal everything about yourself and really let yourself hang out, you need a personal Twitter account, which you should make and keep separate from any of your business dealings. Another blunder that many Twitter marketers make is that they’re afraid will drop off their contact list if they say anything to offend anyone so they remain as polite as possible. Don’t worry, it strikes every Twitter marketer when they first start out, it’s very common. This is where you think that sending out too many Tweets is distracting or that your followers will become annoyed with you. You actually need to do the reverse of that. If you don’t send out lots of tweets, you will never stand alone amongst the thousands of tweets you’ll have to compete with. That’s how it works. When you think of your followers, think of them plus all the people that are following them. If you only send out one tweet a day, your tweet is just going to get buried in a second. So use your common sense here and try to tweet them often, if not every 5 minutes.

It’s also a mistake when it comes to Twitter marketing to appear to be a company spokesperson. In an attempt to impress their followers, they try hard to appear important. But the real fact is, on Twitter, you want to interact with a real person, not someone who’s behind a corporate shield. This would also allow you to experience more freedom when you’re tweeting, since you can experiment with various types of content. Twitter users are there to communicate with interesting people, not corporations, so you don’t want to present yourself that way.

You can make lots of money with Twitter as long as you stay away from the mistakes that we just covered.

Get indexed, get ranked, get traffic

Posted under Internet Marketing, Traffic Generation

No one can deny that you need traffic to your website in order to succeed online. And the best kind of traffic is free traffic. Where does free traffic come from? Google and other search engines.

How does Google give out free traffic?

This is something you’ve experienced first hand countless times. You load up Google or another search engine. Enter the words you’re interested in. And click one of the links that shows up. That website owner has just enjoyed the benefit of free traffic. We will be discussing here how to get website traffic to you for free.

If you’re like most people you only click links on the first page or two. In fact, the first page of results receives almost all the free traffic. And what’s more, the first 3 get over 70% of the clicks.

So to get any significant amount of free traffic from Google, you really need to be on the first page. And that means you need to be “ranked” in the top 10 by Google. And this bring us to…

What is search engine optimization?

SEO means that your website is clearly about something specific, Google knows that that is and thinks others will agree and find your site useful. The intricate formula Google uses to figure this out is really only known by Google. There are several factors that we do know.

Getting indexed

Before your website can begin gaining ranking, you have to alert Google to it’s existence. This is called getting “indexed.” This is when Google looks at your site and take notes about it, which are stored in their database.

To get indexed, you have to help Google find your site. Links from other sites are the easiest way to accomplish this. Since some of these site will already be indexed, Google will follow the links on their pages and find you.

Use your Twitter and Facebook updates to get quick indexed links to your site. Google visits these sites many times every day. So any new links will be followed right away.

Gaining ranking

After this first hurdle, you need to start gaining ranking. Just getting indexed does you almost no good, considering that Google has billions of pages in their database.

Here’s what’s important in ranking:

  • Content
  • Links
  • Activity

SEO content

This is the SEO work you do on your page. You need to make sure your content matches the search terms you’re going after. The topic of this article is clearly SEO. One reason Google knows this is because the words search engine optimization appear inside it. And another way this is determined is by the other related phrases like traffic generation that are also in the article.

You also need to make sure the title tags, outbound links and the domain itself match the topic of the page. Google uses all of this content to figure out what your site is really about.

Your links

The next thing to consider is your links. This includes both the inbound and outbound links. It’s very important that you have more links coming in than you have going out. So the number of inbound links is important.

Article spinning is a super easy way to get a bunch of inbound links. With this strategy what you do is write an article about the topic you’re targeting. You have to also write several different versions of your articles. And post unique versions to lots of websites that accept articles. The more sites you can do this for, the more links you’ll get back.

Increasing your activity

And lastly, it’s seems clear that Google expects important pages to be actively updated. Static pages that just sit may rank at first, but will fall off over time. Google expects you to be updating your site regularly. RSS feeds are an easy way to keep your content changing.

Comments from other people on your page are another fantastic way to keep your content updated. So, obviously, you need to get people to visit your site on your own, too. Online forums are simple source of real live visitors.

What you need to do is sign up with several forums in your niche. And post their often. And link back to yourself in your signature file. This gets you inbound links. And it also gets people to your web page.

It’s important that you do everything listed here. But let’s face it, writing multiple versions of the same article. Setting up tons of profiles on forums. And posting your content all over the web is time consuming. And the bad news is that you probably won’t do it.

Fortunately, you can get rank builder software to do all the grunt work for you. So the best thing you can do is to automate this process. This way you’ll actually do it. And not doing it means you will never get free traffic from Google.

Affiliate Marketing Revised

Posted under Affiliate Marketing, Internet Marketing

Everything you think you know about building an affiliate business is wrong. Everything you’ve been taught is simply out of date. You need to adapt and change or perish.

You’ve been duped

You’ve been told it’s easy to get started as an affiliate. Well, that’s true . . . to a point There’s no doubt it’s easier than starting your own business. But starting your own business is really hard, so it’s all relative.

The bad news…

To top it off you’ve been given false information. The first thing you’re taught is to pick some great products. Next to look for easy keywords to target. Then to use these keywords to buy ads promoting the product. And sit back and collect the profits. But, it’s all wrong.

Don’t bother with keywords

Keyword advertising used to work. But the competition has shot the price of keywords through the roof. So, throw it all away.

A better way

All is not lost. Here’s how to win at this game.

  • Get into CPA marketing
  • Do demographics research
  • Do image ad marketing

Do CPA marketing instead of product promotion

CPA means Cost Per Action. It’s much better than promoting a product. Because your visitor doesn’t have to buy anything. Your commission is generated when they complete an “action”. Such as filling in a form. Which is much easier than getting them to buy something.

Utilize demographics data

Don’t waste time researching keywords (see below). So spend your time doing demographics research. First, select the CPA offer you want to promote. Next, you go to And find your target demographic.

Market on display networks

So far, you’ve got your CPA offer and your target demographics. You can target these exact demographics on display networks. Using image ads. And you don’t need to know or buy a single keyword. Plus you’re going to save a ton of money. Keyword ads are expensive, but image ads are still cheap.

Summing it up

This is a great way to make money fast. Because you can start CPA marketing for free. It’s much cheaper to do image ads than keyword ads. Display networks let you do demographics targeting. And your commission is much easier to earn.

7 reasons why you MUST have your own info product

Posted under Internet Marketing

Think about this: What is the number one reason people get online everyday? The answer is simple – they’re looking for information. Information seeking is so huge that Google alone hosts 400,000,000 searches every day! Why should you care? Well, this is an opportunity for your to provide what people want – information. And when done correctly, you can get paid for it, too!

Info marketing 101

This is by far the simplest business you can start. You take information and turn it into a digital product – like and ebook. And people pay you for the information inside it.. It couldn’t get much simpler.

How do you make it work?

We’ve established that it’s a simple concept. In order to be successful you’ve got to provide information people want. So step one is to discover what kind of info people want. How do figure that out?

One easy way to figure it out is with a simple search. Head over to or Yahoo! answers and see what kinds of questions people are asking. You’re looking for popular questions or common themes. For things that are causing people discomfort. And solve the problem for them by writing an info product on it.

An encouraging word

If you’re concerned about information product development Consider this: An info product is just a bunch of articles strung together. Don’t try to write a whole ebook. Just write some articles for your blog. And when you have a collection, refine and expand on them and combine them into a single ebook.

So, what’s so great about ebooks? Interestingly enough, we’re back to the name of this article How about 7 reasons why:

1. Ease

Once it’s built it runs pretty much on it’s own. And your customers need very little support. Which means there nothing for you to actually *do*. You’re building a completely automated business.

You don’t have any inventory. You don’t have to ship anything. It’s digital.

2. Repurposing

Once you have a few info products created. You can put together bigger more expensive information products. It’s very easy to package multiple ebooks together as one new one. And your new product will be able to carry a much higher sticker price. Your customers will gladly pay more for a single bigger ebook. Instead of several small ebooks.

3. Resale rights

Since it’s your product, you can offer other people the resale rights. This is a very popular topic right now, because people just don’t want to invest the time and money into making their own. Plus, you get to charge two to three time as much for these rights.

4. Leverage

It’s your content, so you can use it in as many different ways as you want. Break it apart and create a multi-part email series with it. And build an email list that you can sell other products to.

5. More leverage

Don’t stop there . . . break it into several smaller reports. Then you can use the reports as the front-end of your product funnel. They can be free or low prices. And it still benefits you because it in a lead-in for the main product. You can even make these viral by allowing your affiliates to give them away. Which brings us to…

6. An affiliate army

This is one of the biggest reasons of all. When you own your own products. You can get other people to promote it for you. Imagine having 100’s or 1000’s of other people promoting your products. Well, you *need* your own product to get affiliates.

7. Joint Ventures

OK, this is by far the biggest reason why. The number one way to launch your success is through joint ventures. And this is probably the number one reason to create your own product. Without your own products, you can’t do JVs.

Summing it up

If you don’t want to sell digital products by now, then you’re either crazy or not listening. 😉 With your own info product you can write your own ticket. Because you’re 100% in control. So, don’t waste any more time:

  • Go to
  • See what people are asking about
  • Write about the answers

The steps on how to write an ebook are really that easy. Before you know it, you’ll have your own info product.

Sneaky Affiliate Tricks

Posted under Affiliate Marketing, Internet Marketing

Yes affiliate marketing rocks, but it’s really hard to get started. The reason is because there is a lot of competition. The challenge is to try and outdo other affiliates and think of ways to do a better job promoting. It’s also hard to figure out what to do because there’s a lot of information out there. Well, here’s on simple thing you can do that will put you ahead of the game.

Affiliate videos

The power of video is undeniable. The reason it’s so pervasive is because everyone loves it. About the only thing that keeps people’s attention anymore is video. So using it in your affiliate promotions is a no-brainer!

Here are a few ideas for creating affiliate videos:

  • Record your testimonial
  • Do a video walk-through
  • Ordering
  • Do a preview video

Do a testimonial video

It doesn’t get any easier than this. Simply turn on your recorder and talk. Don’t worry about quality. Just seeing another real person endorsing a product helps your viewers decide to buy. And the mess-ups or mistakes just make the video more real. So serious, just turn on the camera and talk. Use one of the other ideas if you’re feeling shy.

This technique works slightly more subconsciously. You’re taking the role of teacher and showing how to use the product. And seeing it being used is a great way to make people want to buy it. If the product is useful, watching the tutorial makes them want to buy it. So, obviously, pick a good product to demo.

Record the order process

This could be the most powerful method of all. Record yourself placing an order. Watching you make a live purchase will inspire your viewer like nothing else. In the first place it acts as social proof. In general people are more likely to something they’ve seen other people do. Second, it builds trust. Your advice is easier to trust if they can see you’re doing what you tell them to do. And let’s not forget about good old fashioned envy. They see you getting the satisfaction of making the purchase and that makes them want it. You can add some extra punch to this by ending with: In order to get to see the inside, you gotta buy the product.

Record a preview of the members area

This one is perfect for building up the value of what you’re promoting. You do a tour of the members area. They get to see everything they’ll receive when they order. It also reduces the reservations of skeptics. It’s much easier to trust they’re getting something if they actually seen it.

It’s easy!

There’s no technical knowledge required. Some very easy to use programs make the videos for you. The software really does all the work So there’s no need to even think about the technical side. Just focus on the benefits:

  • Make more money You’ll earn more affiliate commissions when you add video. People like video, so start using it.
  • Less refunds Less of your commissions will be clawed back, too. Thanks to you people know what’s inside before buying. So, very few of them will cancel their order.
  • Outdo your competitors! This is a really easy thing to do. And almost no one is doing it. That puts you ahead of the pack.

So get serious about your affiliate business and add video in now. Not using video is detrimental to you business. So do it!

Are You Building Links The Right Way?

Posted under Internet Marketing, Link Building

Linkbuilding is a term often referred to as the process of getting links that are relevant to your site from other similar sites This process is easier than you might think This article explains some of the longest lasting tips to backlink successfully.

One very effective link building trick is to simply comment on blogs that are in your niche. The search engines such as Google give the most credit for one way backlinks, so this is what you should concentrate on. After you find a blog on a topic similar to yours, post a thoughtful comment and move on to the next one.

Don’t forget to put in your link when you post to a blog. You should only do this in a respectful way, as you don’t want to be labeled as a spammer. As long as you write something that contributes to the blog, you won’t have any problems. By leaving helpful comments you can also start to build relationships with other marketers in your niche, which can end up being just as useful to you as the links you get.

Here’s a little know secret for link building – provide your professional expertise in exchange for backlinks. If you already have the know-how of a skill such as SEO, web designing, writing, logo creation, etc, then you already have the necessary means to make something of yourself with this procedure. Once you identify your skill set, the next thing you need to do is directly approach a well-established site and give them an offer from your end. Explain to them the positive effects you will bring to their sit and the only thing you ask for in return is a credit backlink on their page. This way you can actually find a way to get the finest branding, especially if your offer is taken by a sit that has a valuable audience.

Another effective way to build high quality backlinks is through forum signatures. There are an abudance of forums you can use that offer you the opportunity to signature your link in posts. Forums are highly reguarded by Google and other search engines. It is really quite simple to post to forums that will increase your rating and essentially boost your site and potentially your sales. Just make sure you’re not posting at irrelevant forums because that would just affect your rankings negatively.

While building quality backlinks is not something you can do overnight, it’s very important to your long term success.
